The Melrose is an elegant Victorian house situated in the heart of Ambleside, and a mere stone’s throw away from restaurants, tea-rooms, shops, public houses and tourist amenities. The Melrose has 8 rooms of varying sizes: 4 double ensuite rooms (one of which is on the ground floor), two twin rooms (comprising a double and a single bed), a single room with private facilities and a family ensuite room (comprising a double bed and two single beds). Breakfast is served between 8:30am and 9:15am in the traditional dining room and consists of a buffet style choice of cereals, fruit juices, yoghurts, toast and preserves, tea and fresh coffee complete with a full English breakfast or lighter options on request. A vegetarian variation of the English breakfast is available if preferred.
Amboseli Lodge’s central location means that there is plenty to do and see within easy reach. A ten minute walk will take you to the shores of Lake Windermere, while for the more adventurous the local hills and footpaths offer as challenging a day as your mood allows. All the rooms are individually decorated to a high standard and have en-suite facilities with bath and shower. They are equipped with hospitality tray, hair dryer, and TV, as well as offering pleasant Lakeland views. This lodge endorses a no-smoking policy. Rothay Manor is an elegant Regency house built in 1825 as a private residence for a prosperous Liverpool merchant and still retains many original features. The house is a listed building and is set in attractive landscaped gardens a 1/4 mile from the head of Lake Windermere and a short walk from the centre of Ambleside. Renowned for the comfortable, relaxed atmosphere and efficient yet unobtrusive service, the hotel has been personally managed by the Nixon family for 40 years.
