Air Travel:Factors to Consider

Air Travel-Pros and Cons

As the decades have passed air travel has continually grown in popularity. Air travel is convenient and safe and these are the main reasons that have contributed to the increase in popularity of air travel. The following are some of the positive and negative factors involving air travel.

Disadvantage: Airplanes Cause Pollution.

Pollution is the biggest problem caused by air travel. Airplanes are responsible for sending greenhouse gases into our atmosphere and these gases contribute for things like global warming. For those people that try to limit their impact on the planet this could be a serious drawback. In order to overcome this problem many airlines nowadays make efforts to become more environmental friendly. One of the ways in which you could do this is by retrofitting winglet on the aircraft that makes the aircraft fuel efficient. Airlines also spend millions of dollars upgrading their fleets to newer and more efficient aircraft.

Disadvantage: High Cost

Another con that keeps people from traveling by air is cost. In many instances it is inexpensive to travel by car to certain destinations instead of going by air. By flying on discount
airline
it is possible to overcome this disadvantage of high cost. You can decide to fly in case you get a very good deal on your airfare.

Disadvantage: Fear of Flying

Many people avoid flying for specific reasons. This is mainly because of the fact that they were on a flight that has experienced extreme turbulence or some type of other event and this has been rather terrifying.

Advantage: Speed of Travel

One of the major advantages in air travel is that it is able to take you to any of the places where airports are available at a much faster rate than any other forms of transportation. Driving in United States between places could take you a number of days whereas you could cover this distance in a few hours by flight. The savings obtained in this mode of air travel gives you an opportunity to enjoy your vacation for a longer period.

Advantage: Easy to Travel Long Distances

Air travel also allows us to travel to faraway places that would otherwise be too difficult to travel to. Air travel to practically any destination in the world is possible. In the event of your opting for other modes of transportation you will find the travel time is quite long as compared to flying between these destinations.

Advantage: Safety

It has been found in general that air travel is the safest form of travel as compared to other travel modes. We normally hear more about car accidents taking place as compared to air accidents. It is also not uncommon to read about train derailments as well. This is not to say that air accidents do not take place; however frequency of such accidents is very small. For many people safety is the prime consideration for choosing air travel as compared to other form of transportation.

Choosing air travel is a personal decision, based on the factors discussed above along with a multitude factors not discussed here. For most travelers safety, speed of travel and cost are the over riding factors. As long as cost remains affordable air travel will continue to grow in popularity.

Can A Walking Holiday Be Any Fun?

To go out and do lots of activity based things has certainly not ever been an interest of mine. Why should I have to do work on vacation when I do it all year round and work, this of course was the way I used to feel.

However this all changed when I was invited to go on what I thought to be one of those waste of time active holidays however when I received the invite I had a bit of holiday left over and thought screw it I will just go. After booking it I was then told the news that it wasn’t just an active holiday but one of those walking holidays.

I really was not happy about getting off the plane and setting off on a weeks walk. From the first day my opinion on these holidays changed for the better. I was able to see the world for what it was and it was great to get out of the city and into the great wilderness. It was so good to just sit back and watch the wildlife as it carries on.

We had no troubles at all with our suitcases or anything like that as we were walking from one inn to the next everyday with our main cases always one step ahead of us, being dropped off at the next stop. The only items we needed were the things for the specific day. It was also quite easy to sort about my Diabetic items when I was away on this holiday which is hard as the insulin needs to keep cool.

We actually went on a Costa Rica Holidays but there are so many other active and walking holidays out there to choose from, it changed the way I thought about the world and it may be worth going on one yourself.

Walking Holidays- Any Good?

Walking for a week was not something I was over the moon about but still I got on with it and gave it a go. I had a change of heart as soon as I started the journey, I could not believe it. It was very nice to get away from the city and see the lovely wilderness. The best part for me was to actually look at the wildlife during the walk.

Another good thing is that we didnt have to carry our main cases around with us at all because they were all being taken to the next inn for us which was very nice. We only really needed the the things for the day which was really brilliant. The thing I was most worried about was my Diabetic items simply because they need to stay cool, but it all turned out fine.

Anything to declare Madam?

Maybe you are planning a romantic weekend, or possibly, you are going on a long business trip. Perhaps you are jetting off on your Honeymoon or maybe you’ve rented a dreamy chalet in the snow? Wherever you are flying-off to – you’ll need to make sure you pack your adult toys well to avoid any embarrassing (and possibly very public) situations.

So, how do you pack adult toys? Firstly, you need to remove the batteries. Even though you may think that your vibrator is difficult to turn on, a little shift in the contents of your luggage could easily knock the control to the ON position. You really don’t want to have to explain what is vibrating in your luggage to security personnel or customs officers. Dildos pose less of a problem in this respect because they are normally made of silicone / jelly / rubber and have no metal or mechanical parts.

Place your dildos, bullets, vibrators or whatever else you’ve packed – in clear plastic baggies. Airport personnel routinely go through luggage so if you’re chosen at random for a luggage inspection, you’ll be glad your toys are zip-locked away. Customs staff always wear plastic gloves, but you really don’t want their gloves, which have been touching everyone else’s personal items, to touch your intimate toys too. Do the employees and yourself a favour by putting each item in a clear plastic zip baggie to keep everything hygienic.

Always place your vibrators in your checked luggage. This just removes you from a potentially tricky situation a little bit. If you bring a vibrator in your carry-on luggage, well, you are just asking for an embarrassing situation to occur.

Bear in mind also that vibrators are not permitted in certain countries – especially if they are shaped like a phallus. If you take one in your checked luggage – you may have to go through the red channel and declare it – and it may be confiscated. One such country where ‘obscene items’ are illegal is Thailand. There, you might get away with importing a traditional slimline vibrator and pass it off as a ‘massager’ for your bad back – however, if your vibe is penis-shaped, expect that it will be confiscated!

In the USA, Texan customs officers will not be sympathetic if you arrive with a suitcase full of vibes – to own more than three such ‘marital aids’ is currently illegal in that state. Therefore, do a quick Google check of what the laws are in the particular state or country you are travelling to.

Finally, don’t travel with your favourite vibe or with your top of the range most-expensive toy. It is best that you take along an inexpensive alternative or buy something completely new especially for the trip. At sites like LoveTheRabbit.com you’ll find many vibrator rabbit articles, information, raves and reviews and links to stores that stock them.

This way, if your luggage is lost, or your strap-on dildo confiscated or if your vibe breaks in transit – you will not have lost your favourite ‘friend’ or your most expensive toy. Bon voyage!

How to Make Flying with Your Infant More Fun

Many people worry about traveling with an infant, especially first-time parents. However, with a few simple considerations, it is possible to fly with a baby and actually have fun!

The best way to prepare for flying with your baby is to organize, organize, organize. There are many styles of diaper bags which offer multiple compartments – lots of compartments can make it easier to find exactly what your baby needs in the confined space of an airplane seat. Create a checklist of everything you’ll need for the length of your trip before packing. Pack only what you’ll need while traveling. If you are breastfeeding, remember that you may not always have a private place for your baby to eat.

Before departure, be sure to plan for nursing in public or having enough bottles for feeding. Don’t forget to pack a few extra diapers in case of delays, and plastic bags for used diapers and dirty clothes. If you can combine this diaper bag and your own carry-on needs, that’s even better. A few days before your flight, make sure that you can carry your bags and your baby comfortably. You’ll also want an easy way to move your baby quickly through a crowded airport, such as a stroller or baby carrier.

A compact, lightweight umbrella stroller is perfect for babies who are sitting up, while smaller babies will be more comfortable being worn in a baby carrier – ring slings, wrap carriers, and other cloth-style carriers not only work well for carrying your infant at your destination but can also be used in-flight to help reduce tiring of your arms while holding your baby on the plane.

Most infants are extremely resilient and won’t be upset by flying. Changes in temperature and cabin pressure are the most common concerns when flying with a baby. Dress your baby in layers and bring a couple of light-weight blankets so that you can add or remove layers as necessary. Remember, babies are generally comfortable in one layer more than adults. In-flight air pressure changes flight can cause your child to experience ear pain. Giving your baby something to suck on can help reduce the pain. If he’ll breastfeed or take a bottle, that will probably provide the most relief. Otherwise, a pacifier can also help relieve the pressure. The best way to keep your baby comfortable, though, is to take cues from her. Every infant is different, and yours will let you know what he needs.

Most babies will need a bit of playtime while they’re traveling, so you’ll want to pack a few of your child’s favorite toys. Stuffed animals and favorite blankets are great, as they are easy to pack and carry the comforting smell of home. Teething rings can provide comfort if your baby is teething during the trip. Be careful not to pack too many toys, however. Five or six toys are plenty to keep your baby happy.
While it is important to consider your baby’s needs, don’t forget to take care of yourself, too. Try to get plenty of rest and be sure to stay hydrated, especially if you are breastfeeding. Infants are very receptive to how their parents are feeling. Staying positive and as stress-free as possible will create a good energy that your baby will pick up on. If you are feeling good, you will be better prepared to take care of your baby and enjoy your trip with her.

No more holiday airport stress, take a luxury cruise

I have come to the conclusion that going on one of those great luxury cruises is actually worth all the money as well as being a lot better than taking a plane there. Could it really be better than flying?

No  hassle arriving fifty hours before so your bags can be checked, that is done quickly which is great you wont need to get up that early to get there as its all a lot quicker.  As well as this there is no waiting to get to your destination as essentially as soon as you board the ship you are at your hotel room and can lie down and rest or jump straight into the pool.

No more will you have to wait for the seatbelt signs to flicker off before food and drink is served as this is all avalible as soon as you get aboard. Free drinks are only available on long haul flights and that is only if you are flying with one of the better airlines on a long haul flight.

The best thing about it is you actually get to have legroom which is great compared to a plane! There is no worry about legroom on a ship as you are never restricted to space, even the cheapest of rooms are spacious.

If your in danger there are lifeboats to board and it saves jumping out of a plane and the likelihood of anyone being injured at all is extremely low. As well as this you don’t have to worry about terrorists at all! Nope as it stands at the moment all you need to be afraid of is pirates.

Of course there is the possibility of storms but hey when that happens just head downstairs and relax with a game of pool or a nice drink, or even both!

I have to admit I love flying and I would never say cruise every year instead of flying to your favourite destination but going on a luxury cruise is nice every so often and with Regent Cruises (the one I went with) you are sure to have a better time than on an aeroplane.

Suggestions On Preparing For Your Flight

Are you planning for a business trip or a family vacation this year?  If so, there is a good chance that you will be flying.  Flying is a relatively safe, easy, and convenient way to travel.  However, before you leave for the airport, you are advised to start preparing for your flight, well in advance.  Unfortunately, many travelers do not realize that preparing for your flight does not just include packing your bags.  Thanks to new air travel rules and the enforcement of them, preparation now includes more than you could ever imagine.

As previously mentioned, it best that you start preparing for your flight early.  In fact, you should start preparing as soon as you buy your airline tickets, whether that be two weeks before you leave or two months.  The first step that you will want take is to familiarize yourself with the airline that you are flying with and the airport which you will be flying out of.  You can easily do this research online. You will want to determine how early you should leave for the airport and what items you will need to bring along with you, such as personal identification.

It is a good thing to review the banned items list. These are items that you are not allowed to have on the airplane or past certain points in most airports.  The most commonly banned items include sharp objects and flammable items, but there other items included in these bans, items that you may have never even thought about before. That is why it is best that you learn what you can and cannot bring on your next family vacation or business trip.  In the event that you try to bring along items that are prohibited, you may have them confiscated.

If you are planning on familiarizing yourself with banned items and other airline rules, it may be a good idea to print off a list of what you find.  Printable lists of items that are banned in airports and on airplanes can be found onlinefrom a number of different websites.  One of those websites includes the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).  A printable list is ideal, especially if you do not need to start packing for your trip right away.

After you have familiarized yourself with the air travel rules, including the ones that were recently implemented, you will need to start packing, whether you do so right away or not.  When packing, you will want to remember everything that you learned, although, if you printed off a list, your packing will be much easier.  In the event that you are not sure whether or not an item can be brought on an airplane, you are advised to leave it at home.  Banned items can not only be confiscated, but they could cause you to miss your flight. That is why you are advised against taking any unnecessary chances.

You will need to move towards the airport, once your luggage is ready and travel plans are in order. It is advised that you arrive at the airport, at least, two hours in advance.  It is important that you check with your airport, because some airports have different restrictions. Depending on the size of your airport or the number of flights going in and out, you may find that you need to arrive three or even four hours in advance. It is important that you not only have your plane tickets with you, but also proper forms of identification.

Once at the airport, it is important that you remain calm at all times, even if you are approached by airport security.  In today’s world, it is not uncommon for you to be subject to a random bag check or search; therefore, you should not fret if you are asked.Instead of that just be calm and cool, and after a while, you should be on your way to enjoying your business trip or vacation.

What Rules And Restrictions Each Airport And Airline Has

Are you a frequent flyer? If so, there is a good chance that you know all of the air travel rules.  Do you?  If so, do you know that air travel rules can vary between airports?  Most travelers, especially those that tend to fly out of the same airports, are unaware that the rules are different.

When understanding air travel, it is important to remember that there are two main sets of rules.  One set of rules are often imposed by the federal government. These restrictions like the bans on certain liquids or sharp items must be upheld in almost all airports of the United States.  Despite these types of bans and air travel rules, you may also find that specific airports have implemented their own rules and restrictions. Although it is not required, a number of them have.

Whether you are a first time flyer or a frequent flyer, who is flying out of a new airport, you are advised to familiarize yourself with the air travel rules that are implemented in all airports, as well as the ones that are implemented individually, by each airport.  The rules that can be found in each airport are just as important as the rules that are widespread. For this reason, it is important that you familiarize yourself with them. This can be done a number of different ways.

Perhaps the best way to learn airport rules is by logging onto the website of the airport from where you are going to fly. If you do not already know the address of that website, you can easily find it out by performing a standard internet search. You should perform your search with the name of the airport in question.  Once at the website’s main page, you should be able to find information on air travel rules.  You are encouraged to fully read those rules and take note of what you see; it may come in useful later on.

As nice as it is to get information online, you are advised to be careful with what you find.  Most airports update their online websites on a regular basis, but not all do.  You will want to be on the lookout for outdated information. Other than outdated information, it is very likely that you will not find anything at all.  If your airport’s online website does not have any information on air travel safety and rules, it does not necessarily mean these rules do not exist. But it implies that you might need to collect the information from somewhere else, such as directly from the airport.

When trying to contact an airport, you will have a number of different options. If you are flying out from your local airport, it is likely that you can have the local airport’s contact number from your local phone book. If not, you should be able to obtain it online.  Regardless of where you get your information from, you should find that each airport has a number of different telephone numbers listed.  In the event that there is not a phone number listed specifically for information on air travel rules, you will want to contact the customer service department.  Most airline representatives would be more than willing to answer all of your questions, including those on airport rules and restrictions.

In addition to familiarizing yourself with the airport that you will be flying in and out of, it is also a good idea to examine your airline.  Like many airports, many airlines have implemented their own air travel rules, guidelines, and restrictions.  For instance, there are some airlines that have specific rules on the flying with pets and others that are more flexible.  Before leaving for the airport, it is important that you determine whether or not these additional air travel rules exist.

When flying out of a new airport or on a new airline, the “but the other airline allowed it,” excuse will not work. That is why, to prevent confusion or confrontation, you are advised to know what rules and restrictions each airport and airline has, if any.

The Real Cost of RTW Tickets

Round the world (RTW) tickets can be a convenient way to travel the world. RTW tickets are pre-bought so you don't need to worry about booking flights while traveling. These tickets cost a lot of money, especially if your trip is complex. Everyone is shocked when they see RTW prices. It is important to heavily research and do some math before you purchase one of these tickets.

RTW tickets are really air alliance passes. You buy a RTW ticket and can use it on an airline alliance. The biggest alliances are the Star Alliance, Oneworld, and World Journey. For example, if you bought a ticket with United, you would be using all the airlines on the Star Alliance and only those airlines.

Round the world tickets can be used over a period of one year. You pick your mileage and stops and depending on the route you choose you get a set price. There is a minimum of three stops with the maximum varying on each alliance. The more you get off the “typical” route, the more expensive the ticket it. One popular rout is from LAX-FIJI-SYD-BANGKOK-LON-NYC-LAX.

Round the world tickets can cost between US$2,700 – $5,000, depending on how many stops and miles you pick. You can always change the stops, mileage, and dates for a fee. However, simple tickets with only a few stops can cost as little as US$1,500.

RTW tickets are good if you have a set route, schedule, and are only visiting popular spots. These tickets are designed to send people over a set route so if you choose one of the popular routes, it becomes easy to save money. Pricing increase rapidly the more destinations you add.

However, nothing ever goes the way you plan it when you travel. Most people who use these tickets are people who travel for a long time. The more time you spend on the road, the more your plans change. Being restricted to a ticket will hinder your ability to change plans. However, for intrepid travelers, there are many alternatives to getting an around the world ticket:

Book yourself. By booking your own flights, you get more flexibility. You can use discount airlines for cheap flights and wait for flight deals. It’s will take more work and patience but the money you save can better be spent on food, alcohol, presents, and tours.

Fly Low Cost Carriers. There aren't many in the US but there are plenty around the world. You'll fly the same route as you would a big airline but for half the price. You are only getting space on a plane but flying these airlines will save you a lot of money.

Use your rewards. If you don’t already have a travel credit card, you should get one now. Most credit cards will give you 20,000 miles right away and you will get points for everything you buy, receive special offers, and get miles when you. Even if all you get is one ticket out of the deal (those 20,000 points help get you there), that one ticket can save you hundreds upon hundreds of dollars.

Round the world tickets are great for travelers with a set itinerary and route. You should buy an RTW ticket if you know where and when you are going. You will end up saving some money. However, if you are flying a complex route, are very flexible, and unsure of your dates, it is better to pay as you go.

Is Jet Lag Going To Spoil Your Vacation?

This year many thousands of us are going to be flying off to the four corners of the globe to lie on a tropical beach and soak up the sun, to hike through some of world’s most beautiful wilderness countryside, to explore some of the architectural wonders of the world or to just explore new countries and cultures. And, unluckily, many thousands of us will discover that the first two or three days of our vacation will be taken up with trying to recover from jet lag.

But does jet lag have to be an inescapable part of modern long-haul travel?

The answer to this question depends very much on where you are flying from and to. For instance, if you begin your journey in Perth, Australia and fly to Kobe, Japan then you will not experience any jet lag at all because, even though you are flying thousands of miles, your flight essentially takes you due north so that your departure point and arrival point are in the same time zone. However, if you travel from Melbourne to London, England then you will fly east to west over ten time zones and you will certainly experience jet lag.

Jet lag is really nothing more than a consequence of your internal body clock getting out of step with local time and, although your internal body clock will adjust itself to come into line with local time, this adjustment takes time.

If you are traveling across only two or three time zones then the time difference will be small and you will probably not notice it greatly and your internal clock will adjust itself relatively quickly. However, if you travel across more than four time zones then the time difference will be significant and your body clock will need more and more time to adjust as you fly across more and more time zones.

In our previous example of traveling from Australia to London your internal clock will need several days to adjust itself fully and, while it is doing so, you are very likely to find yourself suffering from insomnia, finding it hard to fall asleep at night and to get up in the morning, feeling tired during the day, possibly experiencing problems with eating with stomach upsets, nausea, a headache, dehydration, and a great deal more.

So just what can you do?

There are a whole variety of ‘traditional’ jet lag remedies including jet lag diets, over-the-counter medication, sleeping pills, melatonin and others and each of these has its enthusiasts and detractors, but do these so-called cures actually work?

Put simply the answer to this question is no. These so-called jet lag remedies do not work and, in some cases, can actually make your jet lag worse.

Dealing with jet lag is not a matter of turning to pills and formulas, but is a matter of devising a plan focusing on your particular travel plans and your lifestyle which assists your body’s natural process of adjusting its own internal clock. This involves taking a number of steps before your journey, as well as en-route and after your arrival at your destination. Sometimes these steps will be sufficient for you to avoid jet lag completely while, in other cases, they will unquestionably reduce the effects of jet lag greatly.
