Hotels.com’s HPI also indicates a change in domestic patterns with Las Vegas becoming the preferred destination over New York City by averaging $82 per night. Despite the HPI drop and change in pattern, New York City is still credited with being the most expensive US destination on the global front, with an average room rate of $196 in the first two quarters of 2009. Dallas, TX (PRLEAK), 2009 – The rate of a hotel room in the US now averages $115 per night, as against $139 in 2008.

State wise, New York made it to the top as the most expensive destination, with Hawaii, Massachusetts, and Wyoming following suit. Wyoming retains its place in the list due to a demand for ski tourism in the state. Nevada, with an average of $77 per night, was the least expensive in the first half of 2009, followed by Idaho and Kansas.
