Can A Walking Holiday Be Any Fun?

To go out and do lots of activity based things has certainly not ever been an interest of mine. Why should I have to do work on vacation when I do it all year round and work, this of course was the way I used to feel.

However this all changed when I was invited to go on what I thought to be one of those waste of time active holidays however when I received the invite I had a bit of holiday left over and thought screw it I will just go. After booking it I was then told the news that it wasn’t just an active holiday but one of those walking holidays.

I really was not happy about getting off the plane and setting off on a weeks walk. From the first day my opinion on these holidays changed for the better. I was able to see the world for what it was and it was great to get out of the city and into the great wilderness. It was so good to just sit back and watch the wildlife as it carries on.

We had no troubles at all with our suitcases or anything like that as we were walking from one inn to the next everyday with our main cases always one step ahead of us, being dropped off at the next stop. The only items we needed were the things for the specific day. It was also quite easy to sort about my Diabetic items when I was away on this holiday which is hard as the insulin needs to keep cool.

We actually went on a Costa Rica Holidays but there are so many other active and walking holidays out there to choose from, it changed the way I thought about the world and it may be worth going on one yourself.

Walking Holidays- Any Good?

Walking for a week was not something I was over the moon about but still I got on with it and gave it a go. I had a change of heart as soon as I started the journey, I could not believe it. It was very nice to get away from the city and see the lovely wilderness. The best part for me was to actually look at the wildlife during the walk.

Another good thing is that we didnt have to carry our main cases around with us at all because they were all being taken to the next inn for us which was very nice. We only really needed the the things for the day which was really brilliant. The thing I was most worried about was my Diabetic items simply because they need to stay cool, but it all turned out fine.

Fun, Fun, Fun And… Camping !

People are practicing camping every days and every summer. More and more are doing it. Your friends, relatives and family can enjoy this great sport. You can spend all the summer or just a day doing camping. Since I was a child, I have been into camping escape. It started out with my family, later, as a teen, I was doing camping with my friends.

My whole family and I love doing camping. I also like doing it alone. Camping is usually practiced the weekend in our family. Driving 2 hours afar from the city, we know a nice camping spot. My kids love this camping place. Breathing air, away from the city, is very important for the health.

An important point in camping is what you will bring as equipment. Be very select about what equipment you will bring during your camping days. Kitchen tools are important and likewise, the tent I am using: the Vario 23 . I use one tent for my children and one tent for myself and my spouse. This tent has 2 main features: light and resistant to water. If you are planning to fish during your camping escape, always bring an additional pole to replace any broken ones.

My wife, children and I did learn over time to appreciate camping a lot. My children love a lot going out in the nature, running and taking walks. To cope with the daily stress, I found out that camping is helping me a lot. For those rainy days, we know some good spots to enjoy camping. All my family and I found out that camping is a great sport. We can simply do it both during sunny and rainy weekends.

My final point is about health and its importance when doing camping. Always bring some medical equipment (kit) with your when going on a camping trip. The nearest hospital can be far away from your camping place and you need to be prepared for any emergency.

The Protective Cocoon – The Sleeping Bag

The day has been relatively without any major mishaps except the few times one slipped and slid down the mountain slope. But weariness has caught on. The mountain sides are slowly being swept by an eerie grey stillness. The camping sites come to sight. There is another burst of energy that comes to push you into the vicinity of the camping site. The dinner must be cooking. May be a wash in the mountain stream to wash away the dust will be good. The thought of finally sliding into the sleeping bag for its warmth was just too enticing.

It is not practical to carry with you a bed when you go camping, trekking, hiking or mountaineering. A sleeping bag is an improvised bed for you to sleep in designed to be carried by you wherever you go. It is a protective bag resembling a blanket with a zipper. It provides the softness of a bed with the soft padding. It keeps you warm with its thermal insulation. There are two types of sleeping bag. The first is the one that looks like a blanket fitted with, on one side or on both side, with a zipper. This can be folded, rolled up and bound with cords or straps and carried in your backpack. The second is the mummy bag as it resembles a mummy. It is broad on the head side and tapers as it goes to the leg side. But this cannot be folded nor can it be easily rolled. It is better stuffed into the compression sack or the stuff sack and carried in your backpack.

There are a variety of sleeping bags that you can buy in the market differing in their water withstanding capacity and insulation capacity. The Marmot Hydrogen 30 sleeping bag is an example of a mummy bag that keeps you comfortable at 30 Fahrenheit.

The sleeping bags differ in its ability to retain heat, insulation capacity and water absorption. The synthetic fill sleeping bag provides faster insulation and warmth even when wet, and does not absorb water easily. But it cannot be easily compressed and takes up more space in the backpack. The down fill bag is lighter, has better heat retention capacity has lower insulation capacity.
