There are exceptional fishing opportunities in Iceland. Salmon season starts in the middle of June and lasts until the middle of September, and fishing permits have to be obtained in advance. Trout season lasts from April/May until late September/October. Permits for fishing trout can be obtained on the spot, in one day. In the winter, a lot of people do ice fishing, and sea angling is also very popular. The season lasts from late May until the end of August, and at the end of the season, tournaments are organized across Iceland.

Whale watchers should also visit Iceland: there are many species of whales in the North Atlantic. There is a wide variety of choice of whale-watching ports all around the coastline.

Bird watchers are also welcome, because there is no larger birdcliff than Látrabjarg in the West Fjords. A wide variety of cliff nesting species can be watched here, along with the largest razorbill colony in the world. A wide variety of seabirds and the largest puffin population in Iceland can be found in Westman Islands.
